Mallum is made from chopped greens lightly sauteed with onion, garlic and spices. It can be made with silverbeet, spinach and a host of other Sri Lankan greens. Sounds delicious right?
Mallum is perfect as a side to your favourite curry from the Mama's range.
My absolute favourite is Mama's Broccoli Mallum - it's super healthy, super tasty and super easy to make! Try it for yourself.
INGREDIENTS
1 Broccoli head
1/2 brown onion (very finely chopped)
1 clove of garlic
3 TBSP shredded coconut
1/2 cinnamon stick
Salt (to taste)
1 tsp coconut oil
Dash of coconut milk (optional but delicious)
1 green chilli (optional but delicious)
HOW TO MAKE
Step 1:
Put the broccoli and coconut into a food processor and pulse into tiny pieces (like grains of rice).
Step 2:
Heat the coconut oil in a pan and saute onion and cinnamon stick until onion starts to caramelise (add the chilli here if you wish).
Step 3:
Add the broccoli and coconut mix, dash of coconut milk (if you wish) and a generous amount of salt. Stir through until broccoli is cooked.
Step 4:
Serve as a side to your favourite rice and curry meal!
